Iona Elaine Carter
Iona Elaine Carter was born May 20, 1919, in Crawford County, Iowa, to John and Lisetta (Sinow) Derner. She was baptized on September 28, 1919, at the Lutheran Church, Aspinwall, Iowa. She was confirmed on December 20, 1936, at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, Iowa, by Pastor Johann M. Ansorge.

Iona married Mack Carter on June 6, 1941, at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning. Pastor Johann M. Ansorge officiated. Mack died on January 14, 1967.

Iona attended school in Crawford County and attended beauty school in Des Moines. She owned and operated Corner Beauty Shop, Clinton, from 1958 to 2004.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Sewing Circle.

Iona was called out of this life on December 22, 2006, at the age of 87. She is survived by one son, Ron Carter of Altoona; two sisters, Arletta Christiansen of Spokane, Washington, and Colleen Eich of Sun City, Arizona; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, one daughter-in-law, and two brothers.

Her body will be committed to the earth at Oakland Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jeff, Brad and Sean Carter and Matt, Brian and Jason Flynn.

Friends are invited to have lunch and visit with the family in the church fellowship hall after the committal service.
