A SAD ACCIDENT
February 8, 1912 Manning Monitor

A sad accident happened Tuesday out at the Charles Grundmeier home when the little 4 year old son, Ira, accidentally got caught in the machinery connected with the gas engine washing machine and violently thrown against the machine, so injuring his head that he never gained consciousness. Two doctors were hurriedly summoned and everything possible was done to save his life, but to no avail. Thursday morning the angel of death hovered over the little bed and his soul took flight to join the angels above. The saddened parents have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement.

Ira, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Grundmeier died Thursday morning from the injuries sustained in an accident the Tuesday previous. While busy playing the little boy got too close to a gasoline engine. In some way or another he was caught by the revolving shaft and thus hurled to the ground. A sad accident indeed. The little fellow did not regain consciousness.

Little lra was born February 20, 1908, in Carroll County, Iowa. He grew and lived to the pleasure of his parents and they in turn considered him as a gift from on high.

All efforts were made to save his little life but without avail. On Thursday morning the death angel hovered over the little bed and his soul departed to the realms above.

Peaceful his soul rests in the arms of his Savior. May this knowledge appease the sorrow of the stricken parents and may this dry their tears. May we all at the appointed time be summoned to the realms on high. Few were the years he lived with his parents but has now everlasting life. His age was 3 years, 11 months and 19 days.

The funeral was held Saturday, the main services held at the house.

The text for the German sermon was taken froth Exodus 22:29 and the text for the English sermon from 1, Samuel 3:18. May he rest in peace.
