Irene Louise Pauline, daughter of August and Pauline Borkowski David was born June 17, 1909, in Audubon County, Iowa. She attended rural school near her family’s home. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church near Audubon on May 13, 1923. After Irene had completed her schooling she stayed at home and helped her parents maintain the family farm.

Irene was united in marriage with Herman Bald on February 23, 1944, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Two sons were born to this union. Irene and Herman farmed in Audubon County until 1973 when they retired and moved to Manning. Herman died in 1979 and Irene continued to live in their home.

Irene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning and Sewing Circle. She was very active all of her life and had a strong work ethic. Sewing and gardening were among the things she enjoyed.

Irene’s health began to fail in August of 2000. She entered Manning Plaza Nursing Home in September and died there on Thursday, November 2, 2000, at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 16 days.
