Ivan Ralph, son of Max Albert and Bertha (Grimm) Genzen, was born June 26, 1915, on a farm near Manning in Carroll County, Iowa. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning on August 29, 1915. He attended country schools near his home and Manning High School. Following his schooling, Ivan farmed near Manning. On March 29, 1931, Ivan was confirmed, also at Zion Lutheran Church.

On December 1, 1939, Ivan was united in marriage with Irene Anna Schultz in Denison. Three children were born to this union. Ivan and Irene farmed near Odebolt and Manning before settling on a farm northeast of Manilla. In 1985 they retired and moved into Manilla.

Ivan was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla and enjoyed woodworking and playing cards. He served on various boards including the Manilla Manor for 15 years.

Ivan entered Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa the day before he died there Thursday, November 29, 2001, at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 4 days.

Besides his parents, Ivan was preceded in death by four brothers: Arthur, Elmer, Robert and Lester Genzen; a brother-in-law Delbert Vinke; and a sister-in-law Irene Genzen.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Irene Genzen of Manilla; three children: William “Bill” Genzen and his wife Virginia of Des Moines; Deborah and her husband Jon Bass of Council Bluffs; and Denise and her husband Verne Cadwell of Montezuma; 11 grandchildren: Louise Guiney and her husband Greg; Hope Brown and her husband Bob; Tom Genzen and his wife Victoria; Eric Genzen; Suzy Bass; Tricia Bass; Joni Bass; Emily Gernander and her husband Erik; Andrea Cadwell; Laura Cadwell; and Michael Cadwell; nine great-grandchildren: Kyle Guiney; William Guiney; Ambyr Brown; Quentin Brown; Lucas Brown; Cody Genzen; Elizabeth Gernander; Daniel Gernander; and Noah Gernander; a brother Virgil Genzen and his wife Florence of Manning; three sisters: Odessa Vinke of Manning; Lavonne and her husband Louie Gehlsen of Manning; Lucille and her husband Kenneth Pfannkuch of Manning; a sister-in-law Donna Genzen of Bloomington, Illinois; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
