JACOB CARSTENS
Jacob "Jake" Carstens, 84, longtime resident of Manning and vicinity, died at his home here Thursday morning after a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ohde Funeral Home. The Rev. Fred Hamlin of Denison, formerly of Manning, will officiate.

Mr. Carstens had farmed west of Manning many years. After his retirement, he moved to Manning, where he served as city marshal for a long time.

Survivors include his wife, who was Gretta Schroeder before her marriage; a son, Harry Carstens, Manning; two daughters, Mrs. Emil (Milda) Dethlefs, Hastings, Nebraska; and Jean, who is married and living in San Francisco, California; and nine grandchildren.

His first wife, Wilhelmine (Brugmann) Carstens, passed away in 1924.
Jacob was the son of Jurgen and Margaretha (Gehlsen) Carstens, also buried in the Manning Cemetery.
