DEATH THE RESULT
James Armstrong, whose attempt to commit suicide was described in our last issue, died on last Saturday evening at about six o'clock. The doctors had thought an operation might be performed upon him Saturday afternoon, and that his life might then be saved but, when the appointed time came, he was too weak to undergo it, and died within a couple of hours.

He did not utter a single word previous to his death. An examination after death showed that the bullet had struck Armstrong's skull and divided, one portion making only a slight scalp wound, the other going into the brain.

It is supposed that the portion that entered the brain came in contact with the nerve of speech, rendering him unable to talk. He was buried in the city cemetery on Monday forenoon.

No funeral services were held. Armstrong had resided in Manning for five or six years and had many friends here. Of his previous live, but little or nothing is known.
