On Monday evening last at 8:42 o'clock, at the residence of Fritz Zarmstorff, north part of town, occurred the death of James A. Bayne, after an illness of several weeks. Although ailing for some time Mr. Bayne did not take to his bed until about two weeks ago, since which time he steadily failed until death occurred. His last moments were peaceful and he in a state of unconsciousness. For several days he lay in a partially comatose condition but would occasionally rally and give sensible answers to questions put to him, his strong vitality being hard for disease to overcome, but during the last two days of his sickness he seemed to notice nothing nor could be speak intelligently. Death was due to a general breakdown of what had once been a wonderfully strong constitution. He was 63 years old on July 13th last. He was an honest, good-hearted man and had many friends in Manning. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and leaves one sister there to mourn his lost. He had one brother, formerly a citizen of
Chattanooga, Tennessee, but who died two years ago. He came to America in 1876, but where he had spent the time between then and up to his arrival in Manning about seven years ago we failed to learn. During his residence here he became generally known to almost every one, who were sorry to hear of his death. The funeral took place from the Ohde Brother's Undertaking parlors, Rev. R.E. Harvey, officiating. Interment took place in the south Manning Cemetery, the remains being followed to their last resting place by many friends.
