JAMES R. FAUST KILLED.
In an Attempt to Gain Entrance to His Brother's House He is Shot by George Crone.

A tragedy has been added to the chain of sensational events which began with the disappearance of Sol Faust last spring. About six o'clock Monday morning James Faust was shot and instantly killed. Jim was a claimant to the property left by Sol and insisted he had as much right thereto as did his brother Charles who was in possession. He had been away from Carroll County for some time, but returned last week. Sunday night he went to the Sol Faust place and attempted to gain entrance, but Charles and family had retired and would not admit him. He then went away. After his departure the inmates of the house became scared and went to H.D. Grau's, a neighbor, where they stayed all night. Charles and George Crone his eleven year old nephew, who lives with him, went back home about six o'clock Monday morning and a short time afterwards Jim again appeared. He was refused admission and securing a ladder he tried to gain entrance through a second story window which was partially open. Charles rushed up stairs to hold down the window while the boy secured a gun, following him up stairs. At the order of Charles the boy put the gun through the partially opened window and fired. The charge struck Jim in the neck and he fell to the ground. Charles and the boy did not wait to see how seriously Jim was injured, but ran over to Grau's very badly frightened.

The Coroner was immediately notified and in company with the County Attorney, Sheriff and a shorthand reporter went to the scene of the tragedy. A jury consisting of H. Eike, H.D. Grau and William Heider was impaneled and after taking testimony brought in a verdict that James Faust came to his death from a gunshot wound inflicted by George Crone.

Charles Faust and Crone were arrested by Sheriff Schmich. The boy who did the killing is about eleven years old and made his home with his uncle, Sol Faust for some time before he disappeared, and since then has continued to live at Sol's place.

The preliminary hearing was had before Justice Drees at Carroll Tuesday and the defendants waived examination. Faust was put under $500 bonds and Crone's was fixed at $250.

James Faust's body was at Carroll in an undertaking establishment up to Wednesday. His widow lives at Clarence and has asked that the remains be forwarded to her there, but owing to difficulties about transportation charges, had not been shipped.
