James Harvey Freetly was born November 6, 1848, in Henderson County, Illinois. About fifty years ago he came to Iowa and since that time has lived most of the time either at Manning, or here in Lake City.
April 21, 1872, he was united in marriage to miss Mary E. Conner. To this union were born eight children, three of whom have preceded him in death.

When a young man he united with the Presbyterian Church and has always been interested in its welfare and progress, being an elder for a number of years.

For a number of weeks Mr. Freetly has been seriously ill and Sunday morning, February 24, 1929, he departed this life, at the age of 80 years, 3 months, and 18 days.
He leaves to mourn, his five children, E.E. Freetly of Boynton, Oklahoma; Elmer E. Freetly of Lake City, Iowa; John M. Freetly of Fulda, Minnesota; Oliver C. Freetly of Coon Rapids, Iowa; and Mrs. W.E. Wood of Spokane, Washington; and his sister, Miss Mary E. Freetly, of Lake City.

Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church Tuesday morning at 10:00 o'clock, Rev. John E. Spencer preaching the sermon.
Burial was in the Lake City Cemetery.
