ANOTHER OLD SETTLER GONE
Jane Agnes Callison - Bingham was born July 9, 1841, at Vermillion Co. Illinois, and died at the
old home place south of Manning Iowa, November 7, 1918. She was married November 7,1859, to
Samuel Bingham at Avon, Illinois. 11 children were born to this union, 7 of whom survive.
They are George H. Bingham of Bradford, Kansas, Isaac O; John E; and Mrs. Hulda Rogers
of Hartington Nebraska; Mrs. Maggie Smith of Red Oak, Mrs Belle Babcock, David H.; Oliver and
Samuel C. Bingham of Manning. Two daughters Mary and Maude and her husband have
passed on before. Just seven months were the old couple separated and then on the
fifty-ninth anniversary of their marriage she too went over the great divide.
Mrs. Bingham was a member of the Methodist church for over sixty-seven years and
faced the future without fear. With her husband she settled here in 1876 in what was then
the new and untried West five miles from the nearest neighbor. There were at the time but
few voters in the township.
Their trading point was West Side. In addition to her children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren that attend the funeral services were her two brothers Wood Collison, and
Victor L. Collison of Winterset. her niece Lucy Bullock of Lorimor, Ia. and her cousin Mrs.
Susan Golthraith of Emerson, Iowa. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor,
W.H. Meredith , at her old home and interment took place beside her husband at the
Manning cemetery. A male quartet composed of Messers Lewis, Hockett, Weise and Barr sang
hymns of comfort. So passed a faithful mother, a true friends and useful citizen.
