Funeral Service for Janice (Wegner) Johnson of Elk Point, South Dakota, formerly of Deloit, Iowa was held Thursday, August 31, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa.

Janice Lee, daughter of George and Lois (Weems) Wegner, was born October 5, 1951 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. Her childhood home was the Wegner Century Farm, south of Aspinwall. She attended Iowa Township No. 8 Country School, due to reorganization she attended six months at Manilla and later remaining grades and high school in Manning, graduating in 1969. After high school Janice worked at L.R. Nelson, Garst and Thomas and an aide at Manning Hospital.

On July 31, 1971, she was united in marriage to Russell Johnson at the United Methodist Church in Manning, They made their home in Deloit, Iowa. Two children were born to this union, Jamie Lynn Johnson and Brian Russel Johnson. Janice worked many years at Denison Care Center. In 1985 they moved to Mitchell, South Dakota, she worked as a housekeeper at Super 8 Motel. In 2004 they moved to Elk Point, South Dakota. She spent most of her time caring for her daughter, who had cancer, in May 2006 she was diagnosed with cancer.

Janice loved fixing up her home and planting shrubs and flowers. She also loved camping, boating and a lazy Sunday, riding motorcycle or a car ride around the country with Russ. On July 31, 2006, they celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary.

Janice passed away August 28, 2006, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. She was cared for by Hospice, her loving husband, her mother and mother-in-law.

Preceding her in death were her father, George Wegner in 1971; a sister: Kathy Powell in 2001; and her father-in-law: Walter Johnson; and all her grandparents.

She is Survived by her husband, Russell of Elk Point, South Dakota; children: Jamie Johnson and Brian Johnson, both of Elk Point; her mother: Lois Wegner of Manning; her sister: Donna Venteicher and her husband Jim of Manning; her mother-in-law Lucille Johnson of Deloit; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill Johnson and Kathy Johnson.of Council Bluffs; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends
