MRS. GARDNER'S DEATH.
The tolling of the Presbyterian bell yesterday morning cast a deep gloom over the entire community, for it announced the death of one of Carroll County's best and most noble women. Yes, Mrs. J.W. Gardner is really gone, she breathing her last between 8 and 9 o'clock yesterday forenoon. The cause of death was lung fever and she had been sick only a few days. The husband and five children, three of whom are yet tender in years are left to mourn the best and most thoughtful of wives and a mother who was always watchful, tender and indulgent.

It would be a very hard task to name all the good qualities of Mrs. Gardner, and almost infinitely harder to name her bad ones. No woman in Carroll County was more universally beloved than Mrs. Gardner. She was a dutiful, patient wife, a gentle and thoughtful mother and ministering angel to the sick and afflicted wherever she found them, The night before she was taken sick was spent by her in helping to alleviate suffering, and a brave soldier dying by his flag could not have exhibited more courage than Mrs. Gardner has exhibited in her life-work.

The funeral will occur Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist Church, and a sad train of mourners will follow her remains to their last rest. She will be buried in the cemetery on the hill overlooking Manning and her grave will be whitened by winter's snow and be made green by summer's verdure many times before the memory of her noble life grows dim in the hearts of those she has left.
