Jimmie Lloyd, son of Elmer and Erma Amsden, was born February 14, 1935, at Carroll, Iowa. He grew up and attended school in nearby Glidden. Jimmie enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for eleven years. While in the service he earned his GED and two years of college credit. He was an Aviation Boatswain's Mate. During that time he met and married Claire Schmelzle at China Lake, CA. They were the parents of six children and eventually moved back to Iowa. His wife died when the oldest child was 15 years old. Jimmie was a long distance truck driver for Allied Van Lines/Crouse Cartage Company of Carroll. Jimmie then married Karen Knueven and had one more son. He continued driving truck and the family moved many places because of his job. He became disabled in the mid 1970s but worked a few more years for Gute Tree Service in Carroll before the family moved back to Manning. Jimmie was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Order of the Elks, and Calvary Baptist Church. He loved fishing, bowling, and playing cribbage. He was an avid reader of Louis Lamore's westerns. His family was of the utmost importance to him. When his health started to fail he entered Beverly Nursing Home in Plattsmouth, NE, where he died on Monday, March 6, 2006, at the age of 71 years and 20 days. Preceding Jimmie in death are his father; wife Claire; daughter Mary, in infancy; brother Duane Amsden, sister Janet Walker and brother-in-law Jimmie Pettit.
