Joan M. Harm was born in Manning, Iowa, August 4, 1952, the daughter of Henry and Velma Cecilia (Kenkel) Frees. She was raised on the farm at Irwin until age 15 when the family moved to Denison where she graduated from high school with the class of 1970. She made her home in Denison where she and Randy were blessed with the birth of two children: Brian and Tabitha.

Joan was employed at the Denison Newspapers for two years before beginning her 36 year career in 1971 at Crawford County Bank from which she retired in 2007. Following her retirement from the bank she was employed at Casey's, Pronto, Frontier Phone Company and, until becoming ill, was the custodian at the First United Methodist Church in Denison.

In her leisure time Joan enjoyed shopping trips, casino trips, playing Bonco, visiting with people and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison and the Ladies Guild where she served as a chair lady.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Frees and Velma Frees Pedersen. Those remaining to cherish her memory include two children: Brian Harm and Tabitha and husband Derek Hoyle of Denison, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Taylor, Timothy, Gracie, Kole, James, Madalyn and Samantha; two sisters: Judy and husband, Ray Pedersen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Jodi and husband Mark Ohl of Denison, Iowa; one brother, Gene Frees of La Vista, Nebraska, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
