Mass of the Christian Burial for Joe Haubrich was held Friday, October 21, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Manning, Iowa with Reverend Andrew Hoffman as Celebrant. Mass Servers were Shelby Hansen and Toni Boyle, Gift Bearers were Rachel Haubrich and Roxi Haubrich, Eucharistic Minister was Margaret Frees, Lector was Ray Thielen, and music was provided by the Sacred Heart Choir with Pat Heithoff as organist. Casket Bearers were Chris Comes, Jalen Spack, Jennifer Haubrich, Ryan Haubrich, Ross Haubrich and Bret Haubrich. Honorary Casket Bearers were Russ Spies, Dave Summerville, Heather Diersen. Roxi Haubrich, Rachel Haubrich, Rene Haubrich, Ashtyne Haubrich, Austin Haubrich, Elijah Marshall and Ellie Marshall. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manning with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 22 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517 of Manning.

Joseph Edwin, son of Joseph J. and Mary (Pfieffer) Haubrich, was born June 17, 1925 on a farm outside of Dedham, in Carroll County, Iowa. He was one of fourteen children born to this family. He attended country school near his home, then pursued farm work and drove truck.

He enlisted in the United States Army in 1950 and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952 with the rank of Sergeant. On April 19, 1955, Joe was united in marriage with Shirley Wood at Dedham. Seven children were born to this union. Joe farmed all his life. Though health concerns prompted retirement in the mid-1980s, he continued to help his children with their farming operations. Joe built a unique earth home south of Templeton as his retirement home. On July 5, 1986, he was united in marriage with Marlys Karsten.

Joe was a member of the American Legion Post 22 in Manning. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a master story-teller.

Joe died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, October 16, at the age of 80 years, 3 months, and 29 days.

Preceding Joe in death are his parents; son Jeff in 1983; sister Clara Haubrich; brothers Ambrose, William, and Wilford Haubrich; brother-in-law Leonard Tigges; and nephews Alan Haubrich and Richard Kasperbauer.

He is survived by six children: Kim and husband Dean Feser of Defiance; Michelle Haubrich of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Lony Haubrich and wife Brenda of Manning; Monty Haubrich and wife Barb of Manning, Mark Haubrich and wife Lynn of LeMars; and Lissa Marshall of Omaha, Nebraska; fourteen grandchildren: Heather Diersen; Jalen Spack; Chris Comes; Jennifer Haubrich; Roxi, Ryan, Rachel, and Ross Haubrich; Bret, Rene, Ashtyne and Austin Haubrich; Elijah and Ellie Marshall; five great-grandchildren; nine siblings: Margaret Tigges of Carroll; Gerald Haubrich and wife Maxine of Carroll; Clarence Haubrich of Maple River; Mary Lou and husband Lawrence Kasperbauer of Longmont, Colorado; Marjorie and husband Lawrence Schultes of Carroll; Irene Ankenbauer of Carroll; Norma Jean and husband Ron Irlbeck of Oxnard, California; Donna Lee and husband Wayne Grimm of Longmont, Colorado; and Ronald Haubrich and wife Charlotte of Coon Rapids;. nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
