Johann Baak OBITUARY
May 21, 1914 Manning Monitor

Last Tuesday, April 12th, 1914, at 10:1 5 in the afternoon, the Angel of Death called at the Baak home and demanded of Mr. Baak that he begin his journey to the great beyond. Mr. Baak was apparently a well man until a week before his death, when he complained of stomach trouble, which terminated in peritonitis and caused his death. The deceased reached the age of 75 years and 5 months.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the home and German Church, Rev. Fauth officiating. The floral offerings were many and very beautiful, testifying of the love of his dear ones, and the esteem of many friends.

Johann Friedrich Baak was born in the Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany, on the 12th day of December 1838. He was unified in marriage to Dorathea Kruthoff November 8, 1868. Five children were born to this happy union, one son, Fred, died in Germany, and one daughter, Frieda, died at Westside on the 22nd day of April 1892. The living are William, of Carroll; Mrs. Peter Rix, of Manning; and Mrs. Tony Anton. Mr. Baak and family came to America in 1882, locating on a farm near this city. Some years ago he retired and moved to Westside. He was a kind husband and a loving father, respected by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his departure his aged wife, 3 children and 11 grandchildren, besides a host of friends.

God grant him eternal peace.

We extend our sincerest sympathy to the bereaved mourners.
