Last Rites Held For Mrs. Hagedorn
(Grandmother of Ralph Hagedorn)

Funeral services for Mrs. Johanna S. Hagedorn, Manning pioneer, were held at the Ohde Funeral Home at 2 o'clock, Monday day, November, 2, 1923. The Rev. Arthur Raeside was in charge of the services. Mrs. Nick G. Schrum, Mrs. Albert Dietz, H.C. Pahde and Clifford Manning Johnson accompanied by Mrs. Henry Hagedorn sang for the rites.

Burial was in the Manning cemetery and pall bearers were Gus Schroeder, Fred Koester, John Peters, Rudolph Kuhl, August Reinhold and Claus Claussen.

Mrs. Hagedorn, who was born, Johanna Petersen, November 28, 1866, in Germany, would have been 76 years old on her next birthday. She had been ill about six weeks and passed away Saturday morning at the home of Emma (Mrs. Dwight) Patton in Manning.

Mrs. Hagedorn came from Germany with her brother, when a young girl, settling at Westside. She was married to Charles Hagedorn and they farmed for about 30 years in this vicinity, later moving to Manning where they established a home in South Manning. Here Mr. Hagedorn passed away seven years ago. Mrs. Hagedorn lived in this vicinity nearly 60 years.

Tanta Hagedorn was a wonderful cook and her services were much in demand to assist at any large affair, community or otherwise.

Mrs. Hagedorn assisted her daughter in operating a tea room several years ago in Manning.

She is survived by her two children, Herman and Mrs. Amanda Petersen of Omaha; 8 grandchildren and five great grand children. One granddaughter, Helen Hagedorn passed away at the age of 14.


Johanna Hagedorn is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
