LIFE STORY OF JOHN BLUM, 89

Funeral rites for John J. Blum, 89, of Manning, Iowa, were held Friday morning, April 14, 1967, at Sacred Heart Church in Manning, Iowa, with Rev. P.J. Nooney officiating. Burial was in the Manning Parish Cemetery, with grandsons as pallbearers. The Rosary was prayed at the Ohde Funeral Home Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Son of Joseph and Katharina (Kaufman) Blum, he was born February 27, 1878, in Westphalia, Iowa, and attended rural schools there. He married Mary Schwarte in Westphalia, Iowa, in 1899. She died in 1902. He then married Mary Bier on November 27, 1905, at Westphalia, Iowa, and they farmed near Panama, Iowa and Defiance, Iowa. In 1937 they moved to a farm near Manning, Iowa, and in 1945 retired to town. Mrs. Blum died shortly thereafter.

For the past two and one half years, he had lived at the Little Flower Haven in Earling, Iowa, and died there Tuesday evening, April 11, 1967. He was preceded in death by his two wives and three children: Martin and Aloysius "Al" Blum and Mrs. Frank (Bertha) Von Tersch.

He is survived by the following children: Leonard of St. Paul, Minnesota; Mrs. Leo (Cecelia) Miller of Bozeman, Montana; Leo of Manning, Iowa; Lawrence and Cletus of Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. Thomas (Genevieve "Jenny") Sheahan of St. Paul, Minnesota; Mrs. Gaylord "Bud" (Jeanette) Rushenberg of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Roland (Agnes "Peggy") Huebner of Manilla, Iowa; Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Knobbe of Auburn, Iowa; Josephine Blum and Mrs. LaVerne (Marie) Collison of Boone, Iowa; 51 grandchildren; and a number of great and great-great-grandchildren.
