Death of John Brennan, Sr.,
John Brennan died at his home in this city last Friday evening, March 6, 1908, old age and other complications being the cause of his death.

Mr. Brennan was a good, kind old gentleman, honest and square in all his dealings and all who became acquainted with him were his friends. He had been gradually failing for the past year and his death was not unexpected. His brother, Richard, and daughter, of Bristol, South Dakota, have been here for the past three months or more helping to care for him. Mr. Brennan has always lived a single life.

John Brennan was born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, February 4, 1834, and came west to Wisconsin with his parents in 1844. In 1852, when the grand rush came for California, he went overland, driving an ox team, then only 18 years of age. He settled at Downieville at first and afterward went to the mining camps at Eureka, where he went into mining as a livelihood and remained in the business for over thirty years in the same place and accumulated quite a little of this world's goods. He came to Manning in the year 1900 where he has since resided.

The funeral took place at the home last Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Heizer, of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. He leaves two brothers, Mike, of Midland, South Dakota, and Richard, of Bristol, South Dakota, who were present at the funeral, together with several nephews and nieces, to mourn his loss. The remains were interred in the Manning Cemetery south of town.
