JOHN COLEMAN

Funeral services for John "Jack" Coleman were held Tuesday, November 25, 1980, at 1:00 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Donald Jones officiating. Organist was Bonita Hagedorn and soloist was Mrs. Judy Joens. Interment was in Manning Cemetery with Alan Kusel, Craig Phinney, Gary Warren, Marvin Gaer, Gilbert Peters, and Kenneth Spies as casketbearers.

John Vernon, son of William and Edna (Stuhr) Coleman, was born November 6, 1902, in Manning, Iowa. He attended the rural and Manning schools.

In 1925, John was united in marriage with Margaret Struve in 1944. He was married to Dorothy (Kroeger) Joens who passed away on February 21, 1966. John farmed near Manning, later moving to Manning where he worked at Priebe and Company. John was a member of the Manning police force from 1960 until retiring in 1969.

He has been in failing health for the past six years and died at the Manning General Hospital on Sunday, November 23, 1980, at the age of 78 years, and 17 days.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret, his second wife, Dorothy, his parents, and two step-daughters.

He is survived by the following two daughters: Ellen, Mrs. Julius Hoffman of Wheaton, Illinois, and Shirley, Mrs. Ronald Dewillers of Leavenworth, Washington; three step-daughters, Viola, Mrs. Barney Stangl, Knoxville, Iowa; Naomi, Mrs. Harold Spitler of East Moline, Illinois; and Donna, Mrs. Ted Williams of Harlan, Iowa; one brother, Roy Coleman of Omaha, Nebraska; by 8 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
