Funeral rites for John Henry Derner, 75, retired farmer, were held on Monday morning. May 4, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke officiating. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.

Mr. Derner was taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll on Friday afternoon and died early Saturday morning, May 2.

Son of Hans H. and Augusta (Stein) Derner, he was born in Carroll County on October 3, 1894, and attended rural schools.

He was married to Lisetta Sinow on June 6, 1917, and the couple farmed in the area, retiring to Manning in 1949.

He is survived by his wife and the following children: Melvin, Spokane, Washington; Mrs. Iona Carter, Clinton; Roland, Manilla; Mrs. Gail (Arletta) Christiansen, Spokane; and Mrs. Lyle (Colleen) Eich of Ankeny; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; also three sisters: Mrs. Malinda McCullum, Rock Island, Illinois; Mrs. Herman (Jeanette) Pacholke, Argusville, North Dakota; and Mrs. Hazel Mooney, Rock Island.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.

Mr. Derner was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Funeral services for John H. Derner, 75, were held Monday, May 4, at the Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke as officiating clergyman, and Leroy Boock, Robert Mooney, Milton Sinow, Melvin Sinow, James Sinow, and Roger Sinow as pallbearers.

Mr. Derner is survived by his wife, and five children: Merlin, Spokane, Washington; Mrs. Iona Carter, Clinton; Roland, Manilla; Mrs. Gail (Arletta) Christiansen, Spokane: and Mrs. Lyle (Coleen) Eich of Ankeny; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and three sisters.
