Funeral Services for
Mr. John Ehrichs Held at Manning

Mr. John Ehrichs, an early pioneer of this county, passed away at his home in Aspinwall on Sunday, March 11, 1934, at the age of 88 years and 5 days, after an illness of two weeks. Mr. Ehrichs was one of those early settlers who helped break up the prairie and build the land into its present state. He was a hard worker and a good provider for his family. He was honest in all his dealings and was a good and kind man to all who knew him.

John Ehrichs, the son of Peter & Catharina (Jurgens) Ehrichs, was born March 6, 1846, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, where he was baptized and confirmed and came to America twenty years later, settling in Clinton county, Iowa. Here he worked as a hired man.

On Jan. 26, 1872 he was united in marriage with Anna Jurgensen. They lived in Clinton County for nine years and then in 1881 moved to a farm near Deloit where they maintained a home for a year. They then moved to a farm five miles northwest of Aspinwall where a son, Alfred, still lives. In 1907 they retired and moved to Aspinwall.

Mrs. Ehrichs passed away Feb. 1923 and since that time Mr. Ehrichs' son, Herman, has lived with him.

The deceased was the father of 14 children, 2 children having preceded him in death, Peter, at the age of one, and Anna, Mrs. George Schade at the age of 24. The children living are, Catherine, Mrs. Emil Tollgaard, and Henry, of Flandreau, S. D.; Bernhard, of Fargo, N. D.; Maggie, Mrs. Hugo Brus, Manning; John, of Norfolk, Nebr.; Alfred and August, of Manilla; Chris, Emil, Louie, Herman and Frank of Aspinwall. He also leaves 30 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Lutheran church in Manning with Rev. Ansorge officiating.
Interment was made in the Manilla cemetery.

Pallbearers were Leroy Brus, John Ehrichs, Ed and Art Kruse, Guy Anderson and Henry Tollgaard.

Peter's wife, Catharina's name is actually Anna Catharina (unknown maiden name) Juergens...she was first married to Peter Juergens and they had a daughter, Anna Juergens.
John's wife, Anna's, maiden name is listed as Jurgensen which is incorrect.
Her maiden name is Juergens...daughter of Peter & Anna Juergens
So John Ehrichs & Anna Juergens were step-siblings.
