John Ehrichs

John Alfred, son of Alfred and Clara (Brus) Ehrichs, was born June 17, 1910, in Iowa Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He was baptized as a child in Aspinwall, and attended rural school near his home. Following his schooling he remained at home on the family farm to work with his parents. In 1931, he began buying the farm from his father. In April of 1943, John was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.

On June 24, 1942, John was united in marriage with Elda Ewoldt at the Zion Lutheran parsonage in Manning. Three children were born to this union. The family continued to live and work on the Ehrichs family farm in Crawford County. During his farming years, John did custom work, like threshing and corn shelling. John and Elda retired from farming in 1974 and moved into Manning.

John was a loyal member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League and delivered sermon tapes to the elderly. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, visiting with friends and family and traveling. He and Elda especially enjoyed their trips to the Dakotas, Hawaii, and Germany.

When his health began to fail and Elda and his son John could no longer care for him at home, John became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in May of 2002. He died there on Saturday, September 14, 2002, at the age of 92 years, 2 months and 28 days.

Preceding John in death are his parents and a sister-in-law Marcella and her husband Russell Koepke.

He is survived by his wife Elda Ehrichs of Manning; three children: John E. Ehrichs of Manning; Rosemary and husband Robert Stamm of Columbus, NE; and Linda and husband James Wietfeld of Leigh, NE; four grandchildren: Brian Wietfeld and Jamie Wietfeld of Leigh, NE; Robert Stamm and wife Chelsea of Broken Arrow, OK; Sara and husband Erik Miner of Kansas City, KS; two nephews: Roger Koepke and wife Joycelyn of St. Louis, MO, and Rollin Koepke and wife Charlene of Lincoln, NE; and by other relatives and friends.

THE TWENTY-THIRD PSALM

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still water. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me: Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anoitest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
