JOHN FONKEN
John William Fonken, 70, of Manning died Friday, August 25, 1978, enroute to the Manning General Hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke, officiating.

Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Clifford Tank, Don Hinners, Ron Frahm, Herb Frahm, Albert Klocke, and Larry Klocke.

The Ohde Funeral Home in Manning is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fonken, the son of Dietrich and Emelia (Martens) Fonken, was born October 9, 1907, in Carroll County. He attended country schools.

He married Doretta Koch March 5, 1939. She died April 1, 1945. Mr. Fonken married Dorothy (Asmus) Beck June 13, 1971. He was a farmer and a member of the Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; one son, Allan Fonken and his wife, Sue, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; two grandchildren; two step-sons, Gerald Beck of Manning and Stanley Beck of Arcadia; one step-daughter, Mrs. Ron Brus of Harlan; eight step-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Elsie Willesen of Manning; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Doretta, and one sister, Melinda.
