JOHN WALTER KIENAST
Funeral services for John Walter Kienast, 83, of Manning, were held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, with the Rev. Edward F. Heinicke officiating.

Mr. Kienast died of natural causes before the car he was driving was in a collision in Carroll on Thursday, November 11, 1976.

Interment was at the Manning Cemetery with military honors and pallbearers provided by the American Legion Post 22 and the V.F.W. Post 3517, both of Manning. Services were under the direction of Ohde Funeral Home, Manning.

He was born on September 3, 1893, to August and Barbara (Ullerich) Kienast in Lincoln Township, Audubon County.

He attended the Trinity Lutheran Parochial School near his home.

Mr. Kienast farmed in Lincoln Township until he entered the United States Army during World War I.

Following his service in the armed forces he returned to farm in Lincoln Township and was united in marriage with Emma Braun on January 22, 1922.

In 1941 they moved to a farm south of Manning and in 1958 moved to Manning.

Mr. Kienast was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Manning.

Surviving with his wife are five sons, Harvey of Burlington, Elmer of Anion, Maynard of Indianola, Leroy of Long Beach, California, and Leland of Manning; 19 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother, Herman of Manning; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Schuster and Mrs. Helen Johnson, both of Sioux City; three half-brothers, Art Kienast of Jefferson, Hugo Kienast of Audubon, and Harry Kienast of Denver, Colorado; five half-sisters, Mrs. Virgil (Selma) Ellsbury of Audubon, Mrs. Leonard (Hulda) Ellsbury of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Alfred (Lillian) Jorgenson of Perham, Minnesota; Mrs. Hilda Wagoner of Sidney, Nebraska, and Mrs. James (Annie) Drum of Portland, Oregon; one step-brother, Bill Rickman of Sun City, Arizona, and one step-sister, Mrs. Adolph (Edna) Dozler of Camdenton, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gilbert; two grandchildren and two sisters.
