Bernard A. Jones
Bernard Allen, son of Conrad Jones, Sr. and Alma Sindt Jones, was born February 8, 1941, on his parent's farm south of Manning, Iowa. He attended rural school near his home and then graduated from Manning High School in 1959. Following his schooling, he worked for Carroll Auto Salvage for a short time.
Bernard was united in marriage with Kathy Daniel on October 8, 1961, at Denison. They lived and raised their two children in Manning. Bernard worked at Manning Motor Company as a mechanic until his retirement in 1996, after 36 years. In 1970, he started a lawn care business along with his other work. After his retirement from Manning Motor he worked at lawn care on a full time basis in Manning and surrounding communities. His son Tim joined him in that business in June of 2000.
In his spare time, Bernard raised rabbits, collected Lionel Trains, and enjoyed fishing, other animals and about anything to do with the outdoors. He also enjoyed driving around town and spending time with Tim and his dog. At one time he bowled and served as a superintendent at the 4-H fair.
Bernard had not been well for a number of years but continued to work with his son as much as he was able. He died at his home in Manning on Monday evening, April 15, 2002, at the age of 61 years, 2 months and 7 days.
Preceding him in death are his parents; sister Clarice Weinbrandt; nephew Conrad Jones III; grandnephew Nicholas Johnson and grandniece Marcia Lovelace.
Bernard is survived by his son Timothy Jones of Manning; daughter Pamela Jones and friend Jamey Hinners of Manning; Tim and Pam's mother Kathy Jones of Carroll; brothers: Conrad Jones Jr. of Hamlin; LeRoy Jones and wife Sharon of LaVista, NE; and Gary Jones and wife Raejean Jones of Ankeny; brothers-in-law Al Weinbrandt of Bellevue, NE; and Richard Daniel of Carroll; special friend Anna Marie Henkelman of Manilla; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
