God saw him getting weary,
He did what He thought best -
He put His arms around him
And whispered “Come and Rest.”
The Golden Gate stood open -
He could no longer stay;
With farewells left unspoken
He gently slipped away.
To those of us who loved him
And whose parting brought great pain,
This world would seem like heaven
If we had him back again.
All of you with loved ones -
Cherish them with care.
You’ll never know the heartache
Until they’re no longer there.
