Joseph C. Kortum, 75, 1428 N. Garfield, died at Hermiston, Oregon, Friday after a short illness.

He was born September 8, 1906, at Perry, Iowa, to Jacob F. and Daisy May (Nickum) Kortum. He spent his early life in Iowa, coming west to Rawlins, Wyoming, in 1924. He was employed in the oil industry at Sinclair, Wyoming, for several years. In 1928 he began work for the Union Pacific Railroad at Green River, Wyoming. He came to Pocatello in 1936 and had made his home in Pocatello since. On January 1, 1927, he married Abbie Fuller at Rawlins, Wyoming.

At the time of his retirement he was assistant chief clerk to the superintendent of the Union Pacific Railroad at Pocatello.
