Julius Guth

Julius Guth was born on farm in Crawford County, Iowa on October 23, 1894, the second son of Dorothea and Henry Guth. He departed this life at the Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, Iowa, after a lingering illness, at the age of 68 years, 10 months and 22 days.

His childhood and youth were spent in the Aspinwall vicinity, where he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He later became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Irwin.

On March 6, 1940, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Irwin, he was united in marriage to Elva Axland. To this union three daughters were born. They are Delores, now Mrs. Arlo Petersen of Kirkman: Carole, now Mrs. Roger Gaer of Harlan and Myrna At home.

Mr. and Mrs. Guth farmed in the Vail and Manning vicinities until moving to Kirkman, Iowa, 14 years ago.

In addition to his wife and daughters, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Dorothea Guth of Manning: three grandsons and one granddaughter. He is also survived by three brothers, Henry Guth of Wilsall, Montana: Raymond Guth of Glidden and Albert Guth of Manning and by five sisters, Alma, Mrs. Edward Ewoldt of Vail: Alice, Mrs. Joe Lamp of Garner; Florence Mrs. Carl Wagner of Pierce, Idaho: Mabel, Mrs. Oliver Ohde of Spokane, Washington, and Ann, Mrs. Robert Eickelkamp of Manilla and by many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry and one sister, Laura.

Funeral services were held from St Paul Lutheran Church in Irwin, September 18, 1962, with Pastor John Pannkuk in charge. Burial was in Danway Cemetery, Shelby County. Pallbearers were Russell Croft, William Fink, Alfred McGee, O.E. Holloway, Harlan Juckins and Melvin Altman.
