KARL R. BOGATZKE

Funeral services for Karl Richard Bogatzke were held Thursday, February 9, 1989, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa. Pastor Robert Riggert officiated the service with Fern Jensen as organist.
Interment was in Manning City Cemetery, Manning, with Ken Jensen, Laverne Meier, Delton Gruhn, Curtis Grimm, Kenny Pfannkuch, and Russell Spies as casketbearers.
Honorary casketbearers were Todd Bogatzke, Daniel Holmes, Martin Bogatzke, Steve Fogleman, John Radtke, Jeffrey Holmes, and Craig Bogatzke.

Karl, son of Carl and Mathilda Meyer Bogatzke, was born March 19, 1900, in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa. That same year he was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township. Karl Attended schools in Gray and Dedham, Iowa before he moved with his parents to Minnesota when he was in grade school. While in Minnesota he attended parochial school and was confirmed in 1914. Karl later returned to Iowa to work as a farm hand. He was united in marriage with Amanda Dammann in October 1925. He continued working as a farm hand until 1930 when they started farming on their own, southeast of Manning. They retired from farming in 1964 and in 1966 moved to their present home in Manning. Karl had a life long love of the land and farming and as a hobby he became an expert at sharpening saws. He was a long time member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and more recently of the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.

Due to failing health Karl entered the Manning Plaza on November 19, 1988. He died there on Monday, February 6, 1989 at the age of 88 years, 10 months, and 18 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by an infant son and daughter, as well as a daughter, Mae Fogleman, in 1980. Karl was also preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: four in infancy; a half brother, August; a half sister, Hannah Stamp; Fred; Bill; Albert; Paul; Bertha Wagner; Ida Keay; Marie Schauer; and Mathilda Jasken.

Karl is survived by his wife, Amanda, of Manning; by four children: Marvin Bogatzke and his wife, Donna Fae, of Memphis, Missouri; Myron Bogatzke and his wife, Wilma, of Manning; Marlene Radtke, of Middleton, Wisconsin; and Marilyn Holmes, of Wall Lake; by 15 grandchildren; by 11 great-grandchildren; by a sister, Eva Wacker, of Arlington, Minnesota; by a brother, Ernest Bogatzke, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Karl Bogatzke is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
