Funeral Services For
Mrs. Katherine Hansen Held Here

October 19, 1939 Manning Monitor

Aspinwall-----Again we are called upon to mourn the death of one of our oldest residents as on Friday afternoon at five o'clock, Mrs. Katherine Hansen passed away.

On Sunday, October 1st she became seriously ill and after consulting the family physician little hope was given for her recovery and it was known her days were numbered. Up until that time she had always been able to be up and around. Old age with its complications was the direct cause of her death. Since the death of her husband, whose loss she keenly felt, and the departure of so many of her old-time friends, she often expressed the hope that she too, would soon be called. For over 40 years she was afflicted with rheumatism and her hands and feet well showed the effects of the disease.

Mrs. Hansen was a good and kind neighbor. Whenever she could help a friend in need she was always more than willing to do her share. A Christian, who was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in her youth, she ever remained true to that faith throughout the years. For several years she was a member of the Manning Lutheran Ladies Aid and later joined the Aspinwall Lutheran Ladies of which she was a member until her death.

To the sorrowing relatives we wish to express our deepest sympathy. Katherine Hansen nee Lafrentz was born in Handorf, Schleswig Holstein, Germany on March 13, 1859 and died on Oct. 13, 1930 at the age of 80 years and 7 months. In 1883 she came to America. After living in Nebraska in few months she came to Crawford County, Iowa where she has lived since. In 1886 she was joined in wedlock to H.C. Hansen. For many years they lived on a farm north of Aspinwall until the year of 1910 when they retired to Aspinwall. Four children were born to this union of which one died in youth.

Mr. Hansen died in 1935. Since the death of the latter she made her home with her children. The past year she remained with her son at which place she died. She is mourned by one son, William Hansen of Aspinwall; Mrs. Ida Ewoldt of Manning and Mrs. Margaret Lorenzen of Pewaukee, Wisconsin. She also leaves one sister in Germany, five grandchildren and four great grand children.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p. m. from Zion Lutheran church at Manning. The pastor of that church, Rev. J.M. Ansorge officiated.

Interment was made in the Hayes Township cemetery beside that of her husband.
The following acted as pallbearers: Emil Ehrichs, Louis Schroeder, Louie Ehrichs, Harry Schroeder, Carl Otto, and Emil Kuhn
