Katharine (Mueller) Brandt

Katharina Brandt, 86, of Aspinwall, died Sunday, April 25, 1982, at the Manning General Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past two years.

Rite of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, at Sacred Heart Church in Manning with the Rev. Msgr. Dean Walker as celebrant. Burial will be in the Manning Parish Cemetery. Serving as casketbearers will be grandsons. A rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, followed by a prayer service.

Mrs. Brandt is survived by the following children: Mrs. Gertrude Gehling, Emmetsburg; Engelbert Brandt, Manilla; Mrs. Marcus (Sophia) Esser, Woodbine; Mrs. Walter (Catherine) Bissen, Earling; Rosalia Brandt, Manning; Joseph Brandt, Manning and Christian Brandt, Aspinwall; 27 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Johann in Germany; four sisters, a brother in infancy; a daughter Margaret Tranter, a granddaughter, a grandson, a son-in-law Erwin Gehling, and a great-grandson.

Mrs. Brandt was born in Zuckenreid Patersdorf, Bavaria, Germany, on November 23, 1895, a daughter of Johann and Maria Achatz Mueller. She was a seamstress in Germany before coming to the United States on September 21, 1921. She was married to Joseph Brandt on November 29, 1922, at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. They farmed for eight years southeast of Templeton near Gray, then moved to a farm west of Aspinwall where she had lived since 1931. Her husband died September 11, 1955. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and an honorary member of the Altar Society.
