Mrs. Nick Andresen Is Laid To Rest

It is with regret that the Monitor is called upon this week to chronicle the death of Mrs. Nick Andresen. The sad news of her critical illness reached us a couple weeks ago, but soon after came the report that she was much improved and her many friends were in hopes that it would be a complete recovery.

Mrs. Nick Andresen, as we have known her, was of a strong personality; a woman of deep convictions tempered with sentiments that respond with a feeling to the nobler and better things in life, and she lived a life mellowed with kindness toward all. A place in her home is vacant which cannot be filled. She lived a life of cheerful sacrifice for her family. She was brave to the last and was a good mother and loving wife. Her passing has left her family and friends with hearts over burdened with sorrow.

Mrs. Nick Andresen was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, on August the 24th, in the year 1864. Her baptismal name was Kathrina Marie and her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Carson Thomsen.

When she was 15 years of age she was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. In the year 1890 she came to the United States of America, landing in Carroll County. In the same year she was married to Mr. Nick Andresen, the marriage taking place December the 9th. From then until March of the following year the couple lived in Manning when they moved on a farm northwest of Manning in Warren Township. In 1902 they moved to Washington Township, where they purchased a farm and there they lived until 1922. In September of that year Mr. and Mrs. Andresen retired from their farm and came to live in town, making their residence on Third Street where she lived until the day of her death.

Mr. and Mrs. Andresen raised a family of 8 children, 6 girls and 2 boys, 6 of whom survive their mother, and who with their father are deeply bereaved at this time. They are John Andresen, Martha, Mrs. Otto Hansen, Hertha, Mrs. Ed. Hinners, Anne, Mrs. John Roggendorf, Albert Andresen, Elsie, Mrs. Ray Lohmeier, all of whom are living in Manning and vicinity.

Mrs. Andresen was preceded in death by two daughters, Marie and Catharine, these two sisters being the first and second wife of Mr. John Frahm. Four sisters and 1 brother of Mrs. Andresen are still living in Germany, and 2 sisters and 1 brother died before her.

Besides the above named members of the immediate family left to mourn her passing, there are also 12 grandchildren and 1 great, grandchild.

Mrs. Andresen had been ailing all winter and about two weeks ago she took to her bed and during this time she was under the constant care of physicians, but despite every precaution pneumonia developed and on Tuesday, February 12, Mrs. Andresen passed on to her eternal home. She was 70 years, 5 months and 19 days of age when she died. She will be missed more than words can tell.

"Her children rise up and call her blessed."

Funeral services for Mrs. Andresen were held Friday afternoon, at two o'clock at the Ohde Funeral Home with Rev. E.J. Hough officiating.
Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.

Acting as pallbearers were Martin Petersen, Henry Ohde, Herman D. Hinz, Charles Pruter, John Clasen and Henry A. Boysen.
