K.B. Koch dies, was Denison superintendent

Kenneth B. Koch, the superintendent of Denison Schools many years until retiring in 1970, died Monday night in Crawford County Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was 69.

Before coming to Denison, he had been superintendent in the Arcadia and Manning schools. Born in Rockwell City, he graduated from West Union College, now Westmar College, Le Mars and received his master's degree at the University of Iowa.

Mr. Koch was named Boss of the Year by the Denison Jaycees in 1969. Also in that year, when illness required amputation of his leg, people from a wide area volunteered to give blood.

A past president of the Denison Kiwanis Club, Mr. Koch was a member of the Masons, F. and A.M. and of the Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Annabelle, four sons, Verne, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Robert, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; Thomas, Atlanta, Georgia, and Keith, Denison and ten grandchildren. A fifth son, Donald, died in 1945 while serving in Japan with the U.S. Army paratroopers.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Maxwell Funeral Horne.
