Kent Lee, son of Charles Edwin and Shirley Ann (Sherkenbach) Hilsabeck, was born August 5, 1960, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His father was in the United States Air Force so the family lived in several different locations. After his retirement from the military, the family settled in Aurelia, Iowa. Kent attended school and graduated with the Aurelia High School Class of 1978. In high school, he participated in football, basketball, baseball and golf. All of his teams competed at state level tournaments. After graduation, Kent played baseball while attending Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. Following this, he then attended power line school in Sheldon, Iowa.

On August 11, 1983, Kent was united in marriage with Annette Chicoine. Three sons were born to this union. They remained in Aurelia where Kent worked as an electrical lineman for a number of years before becoming the manager of the electric utility. Kent coached Iowa's ten-and-under team for the C.A.B.A World Series for nine years. The family then moved to Manning, Iowa where he managed the Manning Municipal Electric Utility.

Throughout his life with his continued love of golfing and bowling, he achieved both a hole-in-one and a 299 pin game in 2015. When his boys were young, Kent was a Boy Scout Leader, and continued to serve numerous electric utility boards and committees throughout his years. With Kent's family being of the utmost importance to him, prior to his death he and his wife traveled across the country to welcome their new grandson into the world.

Kent died unexpectedly on Friday, May 20, 2016 at the age of 55 years, 9 months and 15 days.

Preceding him in death are both his parents Shirley and Ed Hilsabeck as well as father-in-law John "Jack" Chicoine.

He is survived by his wife, Annette Hilsabeck of Manning; sons, Duncan (Melissa) Hilsabeck of Bunnlevel, North Carolina, Dereck Hilsabeck of Manning, and Daniel Hilsabeck of Audubon; grandchildren, Jackson Kerkhoff and Grayson Hilsabeck; brothers, Kirk Hilsabeck of Lansing and Chuck (Cynda) Hilsabeck of Des Moines; mother-in-law, Connie Sorbe of Quimby; in-laws Carey (Jodi) Chicoine of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Paige (Paul) Harrison of Rockford, Illinois; Therese (Les) Hallengren of Rock Valley, and Alan Chicoine of Quimby; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
