Funeral Service for Kermit Kaspersen was held Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Manning, Iowa. Reverend Marshall Brown officiated. Music was provided by the congregation and Reverend Brown with Connie Siepker as organist. Interment was held at 1:30 p.m. at Westside Cemetery in Westside, Iowa. Casketbearers were Bob Genzen, Bary Kienast, Kent Vollstedt, Ryan Gruhn, Terry Segebart, and Joe Karsten.

Kermit August, son of Alfred and Agnes (Wilkens) Kaspersen, was born July 27, 1909, north of Westside, Iowa. He attended country schools and Westside High School, after which he farmed for two years northwest of Westside.

On June 2, 1931, Kermit was united in marriage with Edna Hinz at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Two children were born to this union. After their marriage they first lived in Westside and in 1948 moved to Boone, Iowa. Kermit was a truck driver. He was the mail carrier for the Star Route from Vail to Boone and then drove a semi-truck for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 17 years. In 1960 he began driving bus for Iowa State University which he continued for 14 years. Kermit and Edna retired in 1974 and moved to Arkansas. In 1983 they moved to Manning where they spent their remaining years. In his spare time, Kermit enjoyed woodworking.

Kermit was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning and, for 50 years, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge No. 563 in Boone.

When Kermit's health began to fail, he became a resident of the Manning Plaza and then the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa before returning to the Plaza where he died on Saturday, September 17, 2005 at the age of 96 years, 1 month and 21 days.

Preceding Kermit in death are his parents; two children Beverly Lou at age 11 and Billy Lee at age 9 of scarlet fever in 1944; three brothers Norbert Kaspersen and wife Mabel; Harry Kaspersen and wife Edna; Loyal Kaspersen and wife Madelyn; and brother-in-law Leonard Petersen.

He is survived by his wife Edna Kaspersen of Manning; sister Neva Petersen of Des Moines; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
