Kristyn, daughter of Wayne and Arlene (Schmitz) Justice, was born June 2, 1972, at Harlan, Iowa. She was born with a heart defect and had open heart surgery in December of 1979.

Kristyn attended Manning Schools, graduating with the class of 1991. While in school she participated in many activities, was a member of the National Honor Society, and was elected Homecoming queen her senior year. Of the utmost importance to Kristyn throughout her life were her family and friends. Because of health problems she was not able to stay in college the first year. However, after having been on a waiting list for about one and a half years, she had a lung transplant in September of 1991. By the fall of 1992 Kristyn was able to return to Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa where she completed her freshman year. In July of 1993 she was again placed on the transplant list and spent the next year at home because of her health problems. While awaiting a second transplant she enrolled in the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota in the fall of 1994 where she completed her first semester with a 4.0 GPA. Because of her achievements Kristyn was nominated and accepted into the Antonian Honors Program.

When she was home on Christmas break, Kristyn suddenly became ill on the evening of January 7, 1995, and early the next morning she was life-flighted to the University of Minnesota Hospitals in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the same hospital where she previously had her heart surgery and lung transplant. Kristyn was in the intensive care unit, however had been improving, so her death early Saturday morning, February 4, 1995, was unexpected. She was 22 years, 8 months, and 2 days of age.

Kristyn was preceded in death by her brother, Rodney, in infancy and her grandparents: Hugo and Augusta Schmitz, George and Bernice Justice, and Mary Irlbeck.

Survivors include her parents, Wayne and Arlene Justice, of Botna; her sisters: Joyce and her husband, Wes Dammann, of Manning; Carol and her husband, Mark Croghan, of Sioux City; Lisa and her husband, Frank Vania, of Lewisville, Texas; and Lori and her husband, John Myers, of Ankeny; her nieces and nephews: Jacquie, Erin, and Alyssa Dammann; Adam and Scott Croghan; Joshua Vania; Mitchell and Nathan Myers; her grandfather, Leo Irlbeck, of Templeton; and numerous aunts, and uncles, cousins, and friends.
