Mrs. Hansen, a life-long resident of Manning, and had been ill for the past five years and had been bedfast for nearly four years. She passed away at her home in South Manning early Friday morning at the age of 57 years.
Laura (Karsten) Hansen was born April 6, 1879, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the daughter of Hans Karsten and Sophia (Dethlefs) Karsten. Her mother passed away when she was but four years of age. She then moved to Manning and made her home with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John Karsten, with whom she resided during her childhood and until the time of her marriage.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith by her now sainted Pastor Bruggeman and for many years served the local congregation as organist. She attended the Manning Public Schools and was graduated from Manning School in the class of 1895 as valedictorian.
On June 27th, 1900, she was united in marriage with Herman P. Hansen; this union was blessed with five sons and two daughters, one son Lauren preceded her in death in 1934.
Mrs. Hansen spent her entire life as a resident of Manning with the exception of a period of six years which she spent at Lincoln, Nebraska, where she had moved with her family in order that they might attend the State University.
Mrs. Hansen is survived by her husband and the following children: John R. Hansen
of Manning, Erwin Hansen of Manning, Miss Irene Hansen of Aurora, Nebraska; Walter
Hansen of Lincoln, Nebraska; Howard Hansen of Manning and Miss Grace Hansen of Manning, who is at home.
She also leaves one grandchild, Robert Hansen of Manning.
Burial was in the Manning Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were John A. Lewis, Edward E. Breckenridge, Fred D. Ross, Francis J. McMahon and Alfred Kuhl.
Funeral Services To Be Monday For Manning Woman
Funeral services for Laura (Mrs. Herman P.) Hansen will be
held in the Manning Lutheran Church at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. Pastor John M. Ansorge will officiate.
