A Mass of Christian Burial for Lavern "Shorty" Bruck, 89, was held Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Defiance, Iowa. Interment with Military Rites was at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin,' Iowa. A visitation was held at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa on Friday, April 4, 2008 from 5-9:00 p.m. with a Wake Service held at 7:00 p.m.

Lavern died on Wednesday, April 2, 2008.

Survivors include his wife Betty Bruck of Manning; his children: Janet (Gerald) Handlos of Georgetown, Texas; Mary (Tom) Gaskill of Tucson, Arizona; Bruce (Donna) Bruck of Bloomington, Minnesota; and Jill (Gary) Sebern of Denison, Iowa; ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; brother Gerald (Velma) Bruck of Earling, Iowa; and Sister Mary Ann Schwery of Panama, Iowa.

Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
