LEATHA MAE HANSEN

Leatha, Daughter of William and Laura (Musselman) Comstock, was born August 18, 1902, near Tennant, Iowa. She was graduated from Tennant High School. She attended summer school in Missouri Valley and in Carroll, and later taught school in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa. It was here that she met her husband Hugo D. Hansen. They were united in marriage on June 1, 1927, at Trinity Lutheran Parsonage by Pastor Nieting. Leatha was baptized and confirmed in 1928. This union was blessed with five children: Elaine, Robert, Norman, Margaret, and Lilith. Hugo and Leatha made their home on the same farm in Lincoln Township since their marriage.

Leatha had been in failing health for several years and was hospitalized late this winter. She moved to the St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa, and was there only a short time when she died on Saturday, March 30, 1985, at the age of 82 years, 7 months, and 12 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by her daughter, Elaine; by a grandson, Gerard Hansen; by two brothers, William Comstock and Earl Comstock; and by four sisters, Edith Elmquist, Vera Tucker, Grace Gaer, and Eva Petersen.

She is survived by her husband; by two sons: Robert Hansen, and his wife, Ruth, of Audubon; and Norman Hansen, and his wife Veronica, of Atlantic; by two daughters: Margaret, Mrs. Robert Nygard of Johnston, Iowa; and Lilith, Mrs. Valgene Kruse, of Charter Oak; by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; by one sister, Mrs.

A.H. (Luella) Savereide, of Harlan; and by two sisters-in-law, Esther Comstock and Eva Comstock, both of Harlan.

Leatha was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township. She held membership in the Mission Aid Society and the Trinity Fellowship Club. She was also a member of Lincoln Township Farm Bureau.
