A Deaf Mute Kills an Atlantic Lady, Then Ends His Own Life.

Mrs. P.C. Lenhart, of Atlantic, was murdered Monday morning by John Palmer, a deaf mute, who had been visiting them and who then killed himself. Lenhart is in the grain business in Atlantic; but previously, with his family, lived in Oakland. It was here that Palmer became acquainted with the Lenharts and a mutual friendship grew between him and the Lenhart children, he spending a considerable money on them. Monday morning Lenhart and his oldest son went to their work leaving Palmer and the three younger children with Mrs. Lenhart. There is no cause given for the rash act, but it is supposed that, since Palmer had headache spells in which he became raving, it was the result of temporary insanity. The indications were that Mrs. Lenhart had, before she was shot, finished sweeping the room occupied by the visitor. The weapon used was a 38 caliber Smith & Wesson. Mrs. Lenhart was found lying across the bed and her destroyer on the floor at her feet.
