LEO DAVID RITES READ AT LUTHERAN CHURCH MONDAY

The Manning Monitor Manning, Iowa Thursday June 14, 1934

Perhaps no greater shock has come to this community, than the announcement on Friday, June 8, 1934, that Mr. Leo David had died at the Wyatt Hospital after a brief illness of about five days.

Being concerned about his family, of which one of the children was afflicted with the flu, he watched carefully and administered all the loving care that any parent can offer. His strength and resistance must have been greatly taxed because it was found that he too needed attention. Everything in the power of human hands was done to restore his health, but in vain.

Leo A. David, son of Carl and Hulda David, was born in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, February 15, 1900. At the age of four years he was stricken with infantile paralysis which left him bodily crippled. In 1910 he moved to Dakota with his parents. He received a good business education and found employment in Naples, South Dakota, and Willow Lake, South Dakota. Since 1920 he had been employed as bookkeeper in the Fred D. Ross Garage, where, in spite of his physical handicap, he proved himself an efficient and dependable employee.

On September 14, 1927, he was united in holy wedlock with Belle Simpson. June 3, 1934, he became ill. After a few days it seemed that he was getting along well, but Friday morning, June 8th, his condition suddenly became grave. He was rushed to the hospital, but shortly after one o’clock he passed away, aged 34 years, 3 months, 22 days.

He is mourned by his beloved widow, one son, Ronald, one daughter Barbara, his father and mother, Mr. And Mrs. Carl David, Watertown, South Dakota, four brothers: Paul, Otto, Robert, and Walter David, all of Watertown; three sisters: Mrs. Ella Coplan, Mrs. Agnes Strohfus, and Mrs. Ida Sweet, all of Watertown, and many other relatives and friends.

Leo had been a faithful member of the Lutheran Church, from which church he was buried on Monday, the Rev. John M. Ansorge officiating. Internment was made at the Manning Cemetery. As pall bearers acted: Ben Meisel, William Horman, Chris Asmus, Ed Jensen, Emil Jensen, and Robert Rudnick.

The deceased was a man of pleasing personality, jovial, kind and honorable. He was a good friend to have, and he had a host of friends. He was a faithful husband and a kind and loving father in his home and gave himself unselfishly and lovingly for the comforts and good of his family.

The entire community extends its deepest sympathy to the family in their hour of bereavement.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were Mr. And Mrs. Joe Tackenburg, Manilla; Mr. and Mrs. August Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Rudnick, Gray; Mrs. William Frederickson and son Gilmore, Watertown, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Carl David, Otto David, Walter David, Mr. and Mrs. John Strohfus, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Coplan, Mr. and Mrs. Paul David, Mr. and Mrs. Robert David, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sweet, Watertown, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Warnie Roberts, Lohrville, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Vinton Reynolds, Carroll, Iowa. Mrs. Rudy Launer, Council Bluffs; Mrs. J.J. Heller, Miss Rosina Heller, Miss Lucille Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Cramer, Mrs. Thomas Mitchell, Mrs. Charles Ellsworth, Mrs. May Ewart, Miss Corgie Baumhover, Carroll; Mrs. And Mrs. Arthur Colton and son Bobby of Manilla and Mrs. Jennie Winters and son Dale of Manilla.

CARD OF THANKS
We wish to extend our sincere thanks and appreciations to our many friends for their kind consideration of us during the illness and death of our loving husband, father and son. To the Rev. Ansorge for his comforting words, to those who gave floral offerings and to the choir. No words can quite express our gratitude, and our burden will be made lighter through your sympathies.
Mrs. Leo David, Roland and Barbara.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl David and family.
