Leona Mae, daughter of Francis and Selma (Meislahn) Bosche, was born May 10, 1942, on a farm near Hancock, Iowa. She was baptized at the Methodist Church in Audubon on April 6, 1950. After the family moved to Manning, she attended schools there. On October 27, 1957, Leona was united in marriage with Larry Hansen at the Zion Lutheran church in Manning. Five children were born to this union. Over the years, Leona worked for L. R. Nelson, Wells Manufacturing, Thrifty Foods, and Manning Foods all in Manning and Farmland in Denison. Her last job was working part-time for her daughter and son in law in the office of T.F.I. Lighting Products in Willey. She was first and foremost a homemaker and thoroughly enjoyed caring for her family. She also cared for her parents as they aged.

Leona was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning where she was confirmed March 27, 1958. Leona was known for her love of dressing up and wearing jewelry, even around the house when she was not going out. To that end, she took great pleasure in shopping. Having her children and their families visit was always a highlight for her. In retirement she enjoyed going to coffee and mingling with people. Also, having friends in her home for a visit was important to Leona.

Leona was diagnosed with cancer late in 2008. She put up a hard fight for six years, even suffering a heart attack in the summer of 2013. In early 2014 Leona had the flu and that, along with other complications, mostly kept her in the Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning. She died there on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 1 day.

Preceding her in death are her parents; brother Raymond E. Bosche and sister in law Shirley (Bob) Wegner.

Leona is survived by her husband Larry Hansen of Manning; children: Russell Hansen of Carroll; Cheryl (Kim) Konopaski of Port Angeles, Washington; Tracy Hansen of Manning; Bonnie Jo (David) Wurzer of Willey and Rhonda Fae (Pat) Tayer of Pine, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Betty Clipperton of Manning; 3 aunts Irene Meislahn, Evelyn Morrell of Florida, and Leona Rohe of Manning; in-laws Herb (Gloria) Hansen of Brayton; Helen (Glen) Madding of South Elgin, Illinois; Marge (Bob) Wade of Mesa, Arizona; and Lyle (Lois) Hansen of Denison; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
