MRS. M. HEIDER LAID TO REST HERE MONDAY
Community Shocked by her Sudden Death.
Died At Rochester

Friends here were deeply grieved when the message came Friday evening, June 5th, that Mrs. Maurice Heider had passed away at the Kahler hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, at 3 p. m. that day. Taken there for special treatments just a few days previous, little did her relatives and many friends suspect that her lips would be silenced forever before her return. She had been in Rochester several times before and returned within a few days, always looking better and feeling better, but a dreadful and incurable disease was gradually undermining her bodily strength, a fact that was established by specialists in her previous examinations, although she did not know this even at the time of her death. Continuing her daily duties in the Manning Electric Light and Power Company's office as book keeper until about a month ago, none of her family and friends suspected that her end was so near. Her cheerful disposition and a smile for everybody at all times helped her carry her lot, and gave her strength, until the frame broke under lack of vitality by the constant destruction of her blood. A life is ended that held within its bosom radiant sunshine and unselfish love for all who were near. The tender fondness of this true and noble woman has ceased to bring joy to those who were so dear to her, but sweet memory will linger on through the years that are to come, and will lighten the great burden of those who are left to mourn her death. Not only the immediate family but other relatives and friends will greatly miss her at the place where she was to be found, truly and faithfully on the job. And in social life she was the sunshine in the homes, friendly and helpful wherever she was. The memory of her saintly life and good example will linger with us, and we firmly believe that peace and joy, and eternal rest are granted her forever more.

Leona J. Schumann was born at Manning, Iowa, March 18, 1906, and passed away at 3 o'clock at the hospital at Rochester, Minnesota, June 5th, 1931, at the age of 25 years 3 months and 17 days.

When she was one year of age she moved with her parents to the farm where she lived until four years ago. All her life has been spent in Manning.

On November 3, 1927, she was united in marriage to Mr. Maurice Heider of Manning. It is gratifying to know that these two young people enjoyed each other so much and were happiest when together.

Mrs. Heider was a graduate of the Manning High School in the class of 1923. After her graduation she remained at home for almost a year. In 1924 she accepted the position as bookkeeper with the Doud Milling Company, then under the management of Scott Mayberry. Here she was a faithful servant to her duties and also made a large host of friends. In March 1927 she accepted the position as bookkeeper for the Iowa Public Service Company office here, and which position she held faithfully until the time of her death.

She leaves to mourn her untimely passing, her devoted husband, her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schumann, her brother, Edward, all of Manning, and a sister, Mrs. H.F. Dedon of Pueblo, Colorado.

The departed was a member of the Methodist church, a woman of winning personality and a happy disposition. Her meeting of life's problems, her contact with others made hers a life which the world can ill afford to lose. She leaves a vacant place in the lives of many relatives and friends which no other person can give.

Leona Heider is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
