Leone Audrey Leinen

The Rite of Christian Burial for Leone Audrey Leinen was held Monday, January 6, 1992, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Manning, Iowa. Reverend Father Ralph Reinhart was the celebrant with music provided by the Sacred Heart Choir with Laurie Powers as soloist. Interment was held in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Manning, Iowa, with grandchildren: Lynn Phillips, Dean Poeppe, Kim Smith, Gene Leinen, Lisa Rohe, Becky Zinke, Andrew Leinen and Eric Leinen as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers were grandchildren: Dale Leinen, Jr., Karl Leinen, Sara Sembach, Blaine Leinen, Tony Leinen, Laura Sembach. A prayer service followed by rosary was held Sunday, January 5, 1992, at 3:00 p.m. at Ohde Funeral Home, Manning, Iowa.

Leone, daughter of Godfred and Dessa (Miller) Schwery, was born September 21, 1908, at Portsmouth, Iowa. After attending country schools she remained at home to care for various family members.

On February 18, 1930, Leone was united in marriage with Andrew N. Leinen at Portsmouth. To this union five children were born. They farmed near Portsmouth until 1939 when they began farming in the Botna and Manning area. Shortly after their retirement in 1968 they moved to Spencer, Iowa, returning to Manning in 1989. Leone and Andrew became residents of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in 1990. Throughout her life, Leone was a homemaker and in her spare time enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, reading, and her many flowers. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manning.

After a long life together, Leone's husband died on November 17, 1991. Six weeks later, on January 2, 1992, she died at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home at the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 12 days.

In addition to her husband, Leone was preceded in death by her parents; by three grandsons: Melvin Leinen, Todd Phillips, and Adam Sembach; by a granddaughter, Leone Mae Leinen; and by the following brothers and sisters: Helen Haller, Paul and Freddie Schwery, Marjorie Petsche, and Betty Zangerle.

Survivors include her children: Dale Leinen and his wife, Cathy, of Anchorage, Alaska; Ethel and her husband, Loren Poeppe, of Torrington, Wyoming; Audrey and her husband, Robert Phillips, of Manning, Iowa; Alan Leinen and his wife, Alma, of Omaha, Nebraska; and Doris and her husband, Robert Sembach, of Spencer, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Tarkington, of Omaha; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
