Leroy Henry Harry "Tater," son of William and Dora (Fischer) Dammann, was born February 22, 1922, on the family farm in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa. He attended country school Lincoln Township No. 2 and then worked on the family farm.

Tater was united in marriage with Pearl E. Jensen on February 22, 1948, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. He worked at the Manning Mill and then he drove truck for four different companies over the years. Following his retirement from trucking in 1984, Tater worked part-time for area farmers, mowed lawns and moved snow. He also enjoyed being a handyman and playing cards. Tater was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.

In their early years Tater and Pearl enjoyed polka dancing. They moved to the Terrace Apartments together and Pearl died in 2003. Tater moved to the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in May of 2007. He died there on Friday evening, June 8, 2012, at the age of 90 years, 3 months and 17 days.

Preceding him in death are his parents; wife Pearl Dammann; son-in-law Dick Parrish; grandsons Seth Dammann and Terri Dammann; brothers William "Bid" Dammann (Arla); Walter Dammann (Malinda); and Hugo "Shorty" Dammann (Gertrude); and brother-in-law Paul Bogatzke.

Tater is survived by his children, son Leonard "Slick" Dammann of Manning and daughter Carol Jean Parrish of Westfield; granddaughter-in-law Christine Dammann of Deloit; great-grandchildren Seth, Taylor and Anthony Dammann; sister Ruth Bogatzke of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; brother-in-law Orren Ramsey of Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
