Funeral Service for Leroy "Curly" Henry Jansen was held Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa. Reverend Charles Haake of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Carroll, Iowa officiated with Helen Ohde as vocalist and Carlys Stribe as organist.
Interment was in the Manning Cemetery with Russell Ruhde, Alan Jansen, John Tonsfeldt, Joel Odens, Lowell Stribe, and Keith Misselhorn as casketbearers.

Leroy Henry, son of Albert and Lena (Gruhn) Jansen, was born January 29, 1921, in Dallas, South Dakota. He attended country school near his home. After completing his education, Leroy worked in a Civilian Conservation Corps Camp for several years. He entered the United Stated Navy during WWII and served aboard a PT boat in the Mediterranean. Following his honorable discharge in 1945 he came to Manning, Iowa and for a short time, made his home with his sister Bernice.

On July 8, 1946, Leroy was united in marriage with Helen Elizabeth Delaney of Brooklyn, New York. They were married in Carroll and then made their home in Manning. Leroy worked for Fred Petersen before opening a body shop with Gene Schatz. When they discontinued their partnership, Leroy started working for Manning Motors, a Chevrolet dealership, where he continued to work for forty years. Helen died June 13, 1981. Leroy then moved to Carroll where he worked for Carroll Aviation as a mechanic for 14 years. After retiring in 2000, he moved back to Manning.

Leroy was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Manning.

Leroy suffered a stroke in late March of 2003 and his health continued to fail. He died on Friday, May 9, 2003, at the Manning Regional Healthcare Center at the age of 82 years, 3 months and 10 days.

Preceding Leroy in death are his wife, Helen Jansen; parents; a son Albert "Butch" Jansen; five brothers: Louis Jansen; Clarence Jansen; Harold Jansen; Melvin: Jansen and Bill Jansen; and three sisters-in-law: Orpha Jansen; Maxine Jansen and Donna Jensen.

He is survived by a grandson Travis Jansen and wife Bridgette of Carroll; granddaughter Nichole Bolger of Portland, Oregon; two great granddaughters Alyssa and Kimberly Bolger, Oregon; three sisters: Bernice Ruhde Potter of Manning, Iowa; Deloris and husband Wally Tonsfeldt of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Joan and husband Chuck Odens of Forest City, Iowa; four brothers; Leonard Jansen and wife Clarice of Dallas, South Dakota; Clifford Jansen of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; Jack Jansen of Sioux City, Iowa; Duane Jansen and wife Arlis of Ft. Collins, Colorado; three sisters-in-law: Nina Jansen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Jean Green of Grand Junction, Colorado; and Peggy Jansen of Gordon, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
