Lewis C. Anthony was born on a farm in Carroll County near Westside, Iowa, July 22, 1912, the oldest son of Herman and HuIda (Molter) Anthony. He was baptized November 24, 1912, and confirmed into the Lutheran faith June 23, 1950, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning by the Rev. John M. Ansorge.

Lewis was raised on the family farm and received his education in the country schools from which he was graduated in 1925. Following his schooling he remained at home and helped his father farm near Westside.

On April 4, 1934, Lewis was united in marriage with Elsie Rowedder at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa. Their union was blessed with three children, Marlene, Joleen, and Royce. They farmed five miles south and a half mile east of Westside for four years before moving to the farm seven miles south of Westside where they farmed for 34 years. In 1975 they retired from farming and moved to Denison where he had since resided.

Lewis died Thursday afternoon, November 28, 1991, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 79 years, 4 months, and 6 days.

He was a 25-year member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning and. after moving to Denison, he became a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Other memberships that Lewis enjoyed include the Denison Kiwanis Golden K Club since 1977, and the Hayes Township Schuetzen Verein which he joined in 1927.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to cherish his memory in their hearts include his wife, Elsie Anthony, of Denison, Iowa; three children, Marlene Jahn of Manilla, Iowa, Joleen and husband Stan Spies of Manilla, Iowa, and Royce Anthony and his wife, Kay, of Adel. Iowa: ten grandchildren: eight great-grandchildren, and one brother and his wife, Gilmer and Ida Anthony of Denison. Iowa. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
