Lillian Andresen

Funeral services for Lillian Andresen were held Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, Iowa. Pastor Daniel Vogel and Pastor Curt Dwyer officiated the service with Sarah Tucker as vocalist and Fern Jensen as organist. Interment was held in the Manning Cemetery with nephews Duane Monson, Gary Monson, Larry Knudson, Allen Thompson, Jerry Wigness and Lance Monson as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were Gene McCollum, Ray Ehlers, Billie Taggart, Alvan Hansen, and Ray Witt.

Lillian Kathrine, daughter of Herman and Anna (Jansen) Joens, was born March 12, 1908, in Clinton, Iowa. She attended grade school in Clinton and was baptized in 1916. In 1918, she moved to Manning with her family. Lillian attended country school near Manilla and started her ninth grade year at Manilla High School but left because her father died and she was needed to help on the farm. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in 1926. Lillian also worked for Priebe and Sons as a young woman.

On August 21, 1929, Lillian was united in marriage with Lester Andresen in Denison. They farmed near Irwin, Botna and Aspinwall before moving into Manning in 1967. Lillian then worked at Genevieve's Dress Shop in Manning for more than seven years. During her retirement, Lillian enjoyed playing cards and volunteering at various places including the Manning Senior Center and RSVP.

Lillian was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, participating with the Ladies' Guild and Dorcas Society. She was a charter member of the Hospital Plaza Auxiliary and took great pride in being an active member as well as being the oldest member of the Tri-County Club. Lillian and Lester enjoyed their summer cabin at Lake View since 1959. Their joy for old time and polka dancing took them to Hawaii as members of the Eddie Skeets Dance Club. In 1991, Lester became a resident of the Manilla Manor Nursing Home in Manilla and Lillian subsequently moved into Terrace Apartments. Lester died November 26, 1994.

Lillian became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in February of 1998. On Saturday, April 8, 2000, Lillian died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, reaching the age of 92 years and 27 days.

Besides her parents and husband, Lillian is preceded in death by a sister Lucille Monson, from polio, in 1950.

She is survived by a daughter Cheral and her husband Dewayne Buhr of Manning; three grandchildren: Pam Nath of Manning and her special friend, Denny Garvis, of Templeton; Senior Chief David Vollstedt of U.S.S. Mobile Bay, Yokosuka, Japan; Sandra and her husband, Brett Harvey, of Blue Springs, Missouri; three step-grandchildren: Captain Eric Buhr and his wife, Monique, of Shriver Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Lieutenant Daniel Buhr of Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas; Sarah and her husband, Tim Tucker, of Clive; two great grandsons: Petty Officer 3rd Class Michael Nath of Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Charleston, South Carolina; Scott Motter of Urbandale; a step-great-granddaughter Alexis Buhr of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
