Funeral services for Lillie Eckholdt were held Friday, July 24, 1981, 10:00 a.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa. The Rev. Dennis Johnson of the United Presbyterian Church in. Manning officiated. Bonita Hagedorn was organist. Interment was in Manning Cemetery with Mike McMurray, Pat McMurray, Joe McMurray, Jeff McMurray, Ron Millard, Lew Roberts and David Turner as casketbearers.

Lillie Eckholdt, daughter of Charles F. and Christine (Holst) Hinze, was born March 14, 1894, near Arcadia in Carroll County, Iowa. She was educated in the country schools.

On December 12. 1912, Lillie was united in marriage with Mainert Eckholdt in Carroll. They made their home in Manning. Her husband died on May 16. 1953. Since that time Lillie has continued to make Manning her home.

For many years she worked at the Corner Cafe. Eight months ago Lillie moved to the Terrace Apartments in Manning, and for the past two months she had been a resident of the Manning Plaza. Lillie died at the Manning General Hospital on July 22, 1981, at the age of 87 years, 4 months, and 8 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Gordon (Feb. 11, 1966), and two brothers, Leonard and Herbert.

She is survived by three daughters and one son: Mrs. Ruby Whitney, Clear Lake, Iowa, Merlyn, San Diego, Calif., Eunice, Mrs. William McMurray, West Des Moines, and Kay, Mrs. Simeon Turner, Smithville, Mo.; 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; two sisters, Laura Popp of Manning, and Hazel Culver of Seattle, Washington, also a sister-in-law, Laura Hamann, Manning; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.


Lillie Eckholdt is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
